Hewlett Packard Hp G5010/6010
User Reviews of the Hewlett Packard HP G5010/6010 (0883585371785) PC Desktop
I got this one as a temporary measure for a few weeks until a claim goes through on my super duper written off model and I''''ve bought 3 this week for customers, so got to see it perform before I bought it. I will be using it or business use and light entertainment then flogging it on.
I managed to get mine at Comet for £332 (reduced from £449 and £17.50 off as it was their last model on display). This laptop flies on XP and is also pretty responsive under Vista. The screen and sound is where it exels, excellent vibrant colours and HP use the Altec Lansing speakers, probably the best sound you will get from laptop speakers. The unit feels rock solid, doesn''''t overheat and the all silver chrome finish looks really good.
The downsides, don''''t buy this machine if you want to play ANY sort of game. The Intel Extreme graphics (224mb shared) is pathetic to say the least and couldn''''t even deal with FIFA manager 2008 under low settings. The power cable goes into the right hand side of the unit, towards the back, in a position where it would get in most peoples way whilst having it sat on your lap. This hasn''''t been thought about at all as the achillies heel on all laptops is the power connection, I repair more of these in a week than I would care to mention. Why oh why do manufacturers / microsoft ''''recommend'''' 1Gb RAM for Vista? All machines with Vista especially with shared graphics should have 2Gb to be able to get the best from it - this unit as you may have guessed has 1Gb and as soon as you open one or two apps you''''re getting up to this level and then you''''re entering the dreaded world of virtual memory!
Summary - really for a machine less than £350 you aren''''t going to find a better built machine, dual core processor, 120Gb SATA, excellent sound and vision but dont expect anything with gaming or higher end image editing it just isn''''t built for it. You will need to spend nearly twice this much and go for one with dedicated nVidia grpahics (not shared), but for people on a budget or not expecting to demand too much from it - really look no further you will not be disappointed.

Pros:
Rock solid build quality
Dual core processor when other manufacturers only manage Celeron mobile at the same price range
Vibrant screen colours and excellent sound from a laptop
For the price its probably THE BEST in its class
All silver casing looks very smart
Cons:
Totally useless graphics capability
power connection in totally wrong place
1Gb RAM is too low for ANY Vista machine
This is a very good value for money laptop.
It has everything that you need to start using it.
Good memory, hard drive size and the new processor Intel Dual Core.
HP laptops got a good case, I have never seen one with broken case or hinges.
The only negative point is a little bit heavy...but I don''t care I just use it at home.
