User Reviews of the Garmin nuvi™ 310 Sat Nav / GPS Receiver
One major problem - and one lesser problem.

I bought a Nuvi 310 after reading a glowing report in Which? magazine. The unit is neat and stylish - and amall-enough to carry around in a pocket to avoid leaving it in the car. The power lead plugs into the screen mount, rather than the unit itself - which makes mounting and demounting the unit very easy. Directions are clear and accurate - although there is one major problem with this unit (and all other Nuvi products). On UK roads that are not subject to a 30 mph limit, the final ''Turn Right'' or ''Turn Left'' command is given at 0.2 miles prior to the actual required turning. This is far too early - and very often there are other turnings between the point where the voice command is given - and the actual turning you require. The only way to avoid taking the wrong turning is to closely watch the screen and only turn when the position indicator reaches the white ''turn'' arrow on the screen map. This is not great for road safety when you are in busy areas. For the unit to command "Turn Right" when there is a right turn in front which is *not* the one you want is plain ridiculous! I have taken this issue up with Garmin who accept that it is a fault - but that it only affects the UK mapping (!!). They say they are working with their mapping supplier to correct the issue - but cannot say when this might happen. The less serious issue is that unlike other Sat Nav systems - there is no on-screen info of what direction the next turn is. The only info is ''Turn in 0.5 miles'' (for example) - but not whether that turn is to the right or the left. Other Sat Navs show a white arrow indicating whether the turn is to the right or the left - and in busy areas where you may need to get into a specific lane, this is very useful. The direction info *can* be obtained on the Nuvi - but only by pressing an onscreen button - which is inconvenient and a road-safety hazard. Two of my relatives have Tom Tom''s and I have to say that I prefer their units - and wish that I had gone for one of those rather than my Nuvi.
Pros:
Directions are clear and accurate. Blue-tooth link for mobile phone use very useful.
Cons:
Final turn command given far too early. No on-screen indication of direction of next turn.

Nuvi 310 - great

Purchased this after looking at lots of sat nav systems. The unit overall looks very nice nice indeed, and the unit feels well built. And im suprized the touch screen is so robust, its very accurate. The bluetooth features are a god send, dial directly from the Nuvi and view phone book etc. Call POI's, this feature is very impressive. The navigation instructions are giving in good time and never late. Map easy to understand aswell. I also got the FM TMC Traffic Reciever which i would recomend if you travel on motorways alot. Security wise the system gets the thumbs up. It features the 'Garmin Lock' which basically entails you entering a pin, if the pin is incorrect you must go to your 'security point' which i chose the be my driveway. Overall great system, would highly recomend.
Pros:
Handsfree calling.
