Review of the Yamaha YSP-1000 Surround Sound Stereo Speaker Sound System
Keep an eye on Gran this festive season if you choose to boost your TV with the Yamaha YSP-1000 Surround Sound System. As soon as this beauty is connected up to your TV, you can guarantee that one of the family will choke on their Christmas Pudding. Design |
Yamaha have compacted the YSP-1000 into a simple, but good-looking, elongated speaker. Having just one speaker you can choose to pop it neatly under the TV or hide it elsewhere, or it can even be wall mounted too. The upper part of the speaker stands proud of the lower part which houses a few volume and power control buttons, and acts as a stand too. The main speaker face is metallic black with two shiny black caps on either end. This metal area is a few shades darker than the plastic parts. There are logos to the left and centre of the speaker, which rather obviously stand out and catch your eye.
Features
The magic behind the huge sound that Yamaha have crammed into the small YSP1000 digital amplifier is down to not one, not two, but 42 speakers, all enclosed within the neat 40-inch device. The pair of 100mm are backed-up by TruBass, and Dolby Pro Logic II for more dynamic bass, and an enhanced surround sound experience. The group of speakers work with the parameters of your room to create a virtual surround soundstage. The YSP1000 has a 40mm sound beam driver, and with this you can choose the ‘my beam mode’; this directs the sound to the listener’s position at the touch of a button. There are four other sound modes too, including 5 Beam, 3 Beam, 3 Beam plus Stereo, or just Stereo. Using the menus you can preset the level of volume to the level you would like to hear when the device is initially turned on. The attractive remote control works well, and boasts all the options you could possibly need.
Performance
This Yamaha YSP1000 surround sound speaker put on an absolutely cracking performance. The 42 speakers do the job of 1000 in our opinion, with every creaking door and ringing telephone sounding like it was there right next to you. It was so realistic there were admittedly a few occasions where one of us would jump slightly, or look around to see who had come in. We used it in room that measured 8 x 10 metres with high-ceilings and not much furniture, so we were concerned that the sound didn’t really have much to hit off. We thought this would impair the performance, but it really didn’t seem to phase the professional YSP1000.
Overall Opinion
This YSP1000 plug and play surround sound projector is a real treat from Yamaha. Once plugged in to your TV you’ll be blown away by the scarily realistic performance, taking your TV to a new sonic level. The simple, singular component design makes it compatible with any TV in almost all settings.
