A review of the Toshiba 42CV505D LCD TV

Toshiba are renowned for their high quality TV's but especially for the reasonable price tags they seem to attach to them. The Toshiba 42CV505D LCD TV is certainly one of those models and comes in at under £650!!!

 

The design of the Toshiba 42CV505D is quite basic, but with rounded frame edges a high level of class oozes from every corner. The glossy black finish creates an air of sophistication while the stand just shouts sturdiness.

 

The features on board this extremely reasonable LCD TV are impressive and include 1080 HD Ready, a Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 17,000:1, Active Vision LCD, Standard TV Up-scaling, MPEG Noise Reduction, 3D Digital Comb Filter, Digital Noise Reduction, 10-Bit Processing, Full Power Down Mode and a Game Mode to name but a few. The features all aim to provide you with the most sharp and judder free images possible and with the Active Vision LCD processing engine, this should take care of that. The Game Mode should attract interest to many gaming fans out there as once in this mode the Toshiba 42CV505D increases all response times to suit the game being played and in order to display the best results, optimises TV settings.

We were kind of expecting to get what we paid for with the Toshiba 42CV505D LCD TV and thought maybe it would lack in certain areas, maybe lose detail and colour vibrancy for example. However, we were pleasantly surprised to see such stunning high definition images with a high level of detail and colours with rich vibrancy and clarity. Although this screen has a HD resolution of 1366x768 rather than 1920x1080 it still manages to deliver a high quality HD image but slightly disappointed on the Standard Definition images. Black levels were impressive and detailed and left us a bit speechless really as we did predict this would be an area where this TV would fail. In fact we really struggled to find an area in which this TV failed and were immensely impressed by all aspects.

A great performer and a very reasonably priced 42" LCD TV. There is no reason to believe that because this TV is relatively cheaper than most others of its size, it is a poor performer as we witnessed some stunning images and great colours and blacks.
