Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) Console Review

There are a number of gadgets on the market that are hailed as the ultimate in portable entertainment systems; providing every aspect of fun and enjoyment at home or on the move, and chances are not all that the manufacturers claims live up to expectations. If you want to get close though you might want to take a look at the Sony PSP. Sony have primarily designed the PSP as a portable gaming device that replicates all the thrills and spills of the PS2 in miniature and dropped in some amazing add-on features; this is a serious gadget for serious gamers! The layout of the PSP has all the familiar controls seen on the PS2, even down to the analogue stick. Most impressive is the 4.3-inch screen, it is the highest definition widescreen display around for portable devices (480x272 pixels), great for games and will display high quality DVD films at 16:9 aspect ratio. Games and films come on UMD (Universal Media Disc), Sony owned media, which slots into the back of the device; unfortunately the discs are non-recordable, at the moment only licensed films can be purchased for viewing. Video, films, music and photos can be stored on Sony memory sticks from your computer, which slot into the side of the device; but be aware if you want to store films or large amount of music onto memory sticks it can get costly. The PSP is WiFi ready giving access to on-line gaming or multi-play link-up over a network and of course you can browse the web. The PSP is a very versatile device and I am sure more features will be added as Sony evolves its functionality.

Overall Opinion

We have had the Sony PSP in the office for less that a week and it's starting to cause problems as everyone wants to play with it at all times! Why? Well, maybe it's because the Sony PlayStation Portable is the best portable gaming console to date and it offers not only superb image quality and game play, but also a long list of very useful features like Wi-Fi and video player. Is it my turn yet?
