A review of the Sony Bravia KDL-40W4000 LCD TV

The Sony KDL-40W4000 LCD TV has a great Sony design with a good solid structure and sleek edged frame. The depth of the screen is 110mm which makes this a slim model to wall mount. There is a nice silver strip across the bottom of the screen which gives it a slight bit of individuality and a certain level of class, as well as the transparent section across the middle. This part is a bit distracting as you can see the stand through it, but hopefully over time your eyes would get used to it being there.

Sony prides itself on providing the best quality televisions with the most up to date specifications and features, and the KDL40W4000 is no exception to the rule. The features on board include, Picture Frame Mode, Bravia Engine 2, Advanced Contrast Enhancer, USB Photo Viewer, PhotoTV HD, XrossMediaBar, Live Colour Creation, x.v.Colour, 10-Bit LCD Panel, Bravia Sync, 24p True Cinema and much more. The Picture Frame Mode is a great features allowing your to view a slide-show of your personal memories as a screen saver using low consumption or choose an image from the pre-installed ones. The high contrast ratio of 33,000:1 along with the Bravia Engine 2 and 1920x1080 resolution aims to provide you with a spectacular sight of high quality images and sound. Sony's Bravia Theatre Sync has been included allowing you to hook up all of your compatible devices and operate them with one touch control. so once you have switched on your LCD TV, the DVD player will come on and any other you wish to use.

There has not been many aspects of the Sony Bravia range that has ever disappointed us as each performance excels. We are pleased to say that the same goes for the KDL-40W4000 too. As soon as you switch a football match on, the performance speaks for itself and shows that there is no motion judder whatsoever. Distortion is absolutely minimal in all of the fast moving scenes we saw which displays the success of the 100Hz processing technology. The same can be applied to the black levels and colour reproduction too, which were outstanding with no grey areas and amazing detail in very dark scenes. Colours showed vibrancy, detail, brightness and clarity. Standard definition was average with Freeview images being totally watchable but in comparison to HD you just wouldn't bother. High Definition images on the KDL40W4000 are just stunning, with amazing lifelike details, colours and sharpness. The one and only flaw that slightly disappointed us was the sound that came from the speakers at the bottom of the frame. Sound was poor and had no depth to it at all, the only saving grace being that a good surround sound system would fix this.

If this was the Sony KDL-40W4000's school report, we would comment on its ability to stand out in a crowd, with hard working talents that show immaculate results and excellent performance in every area, however, the KDL-40W4000 needs to speak up a bit when asked to contribute verbally! An area that can easily be worked on.
