A Review of the Sony KDL-32P3020 HD Ready LCD TV
Sony rolls out some high standard high definition LCD TV’s that quite frankly, knock our socks off. The Bravia Engine adds so many exciting features to the range and enhances the image quality like no other and all for an amazingly reasonable price. Design |
The first thing you notice about the KDL-32P3020 is the large chunky black frame surrounding the screen. Not as slim and compact as many other LCD TV’s, but still as it’s a Sony model it still looks sophisticated and elegant in its own right. The speakers are located in the lower section of the frame which does make it slightly bigger than average around the bottom section.
Features
The Sony Bravia Engine provides picture enhancement in many ways such as improved depth, clarity and definition as well as colour and sharpness. Being a HD ready screen means that images can be received at High Definition and this can be from devices such as a HD DVD Player, Blu-Ray Player or a games console such as an Xbox or Playstation 3. An ultra wide viewing angle of 178 degrees allows the image to be clearly viewed from any position in the room. Connectivity is good with two HDMI inputs but slightly disappointing when LCD TV’s are being released now with 4 HDMI’s. As a Sony Bravia LCD TV, Bravia Theatre Sync has been included meaning that all connected devices can be controlled with a single remote. The sound is taken care of by Sony’s BBE ViVA high quality sound and built-in Virtual Dolby surround sound from the two speakers at the front.
Performance
We were pleasantly surprised by the images we received with the Sony KDL-32P3020, mainly because the chunky frame gives and slightly old fashioned appearance and you kind of expect the image to reflect this also. How wrong you can be, the images were outstanding and some of the best we have seen. Colours and depth were stunning natural and black levels were detailed and deep. The details are amazing and digital noise was kept to an absolute minimum and extremely difficult to detect. The images are that good that we are surprised that this TV is priced so low and if Sony had pushed the boat out and given it a more spectacular frame and remote which doesn’t look a hundred years old, they could have had a mighty fine LCD TV on their hands.
Overall Opinion
Overall, the Sony KDL-32P3020 is an outstanding LCD TV with a near perfect picture and great features, just a shame about the frame, but like they say, beauty is only skin deep. Extremely good value.
