Design
The Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Player has a very standard but solid look about it.  The appearance is sleek and sophisticated however and the silver buttons and trim stand out wonderfully from the solid black body. The LED display on the front panel really seems to date the unit and make it look like an eighties throwback and the control buttons on the right side of the panel are hard click buttons rather than a smooth button design like on many other tech devices today.
Features

As we stated above the Sony BDP-S300 is quite a standard looking player and this follows suit with the features included. The BDP-S300 can also play standard definiton discs and upscale them into high resolution images, MP3, audio CD and JPEG files can also be played. Sony's Bravia Thatre Sync feature is on board to provide the user with the ease of operating all devices with one single remote via the HDMI connections. 24p True Cinema ensure that the films you watch on this player are as close to how the movie director intended them to be. Connectivity is useful with HDMI and 5.1ch Gold Plated analogue output as well as 7.1ch surround sound.

Performance
Although there could be room for improvement on the features list, the Sony BDP-S300 does seem to perform well, better than expected anyway. Colours are displayed brilliantly with the assistance of the 24p True Cinema feature (present on many HDTV's). Motion is not that great through and we do witness some juddering taking place in face moving scenes. Standard DVD's are displayed better than the Blu-Ray movies is a bit disappointing really, however details are displayed extremely well as are deep blacks. The speed of the unit itself is a bit sluggish with the operation being the worst. The disc drawer is slow to open after the delay of pressing the eject button and navigating around the menus was painstakingly slow.
Overall Opinion
The Sony BDP-S300 is a decent Blu-Ray player in the way the it plays Blu-Ray dics well although not brilliantly. It plays standard DVD's well and colours are displayed brilliantly. For a reasonably priced and competent Blu-Ray Player, the BDP-S300 is good but spending a few more quid will get you a much better performing player.
Pros
+ Colours are displayed very well
+ Blacks are deep and detailed
+ Easy to use

Cons
- Motion judder is present in fast moving scenes
- No Ethernet connection
