Sony Bravia S series Tv Review
If Sony’s V series is the Angelina Jolie of the LCD TV world, then the S series is the Kiera Knightly of our kingdom – got everything you could want but doesn’t quite have the same panache. Being a Sony brand the S2010 is still pretty good but is a bit flatter and slightly duller looking than the V. Having said that the quality of image is still top of the range with vibrant bright colours, good sound and lots of connections rammed into an overly anorexic body. |

Design | | So it’s very slim. The 32 inch screen sits surrounded by a tape of matt black around the screen, finished off with the usual silver casing on the outer side. Like speakers sit like a belt around the bottom of the TV, a fat wide strip ready to pump out sound. There won’t be any tangoing with the single foot stand but it does mean it can securely be placed on any surface. | | Setup/Installation | | Setting up is easy. Like all televisions, make sure your sockets at the back are plugged in well and then switch the TV on. From this point on it will work its way through the channels and select the stations for you. | | Features | | We suppose the first thing to mention is the Bravia technology. We’re sure you’ve all seen the adverts of the hundreds of coloured balls bouncing around enchantingly on the Sony advert. The Bravia engine is a new image processing system that enhances the colours and gives more vivid images. Next up with the 32S2010 is the Super Patterned Vertical Alignment (SPVA) that picks up more pixels again adding to the final image. This model comes with a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 and a 1300:1 contrast ratio and a digital tuner complete with seven day EPG. Connection wise there’s nothing unusual. There’s the lonely, single HDMI component together with a PC jack, two Scart plug and the S-Video socket. | | Performance | | The Bravia Engine adds to the picture quality. You get a brilliant image that is clear and detailed both in 720p and 1080i HD. And when it comes to playing games, your X-box experience will never seem the same again… well till the next upgrade comes along. The whole thing about high definition is the colour, so it’s good to see that Sony haven’t let us down on this front. The Live Colour system boosts colour saturation, giving vibrant, rich, natural tones. The blacks are better than previous models too and are really black rather than an off shade of grey. While we can praise the 32SS2010 for its blacks, it could still do with improvements for more subtlety of colour. What you get is a full digital image that has low contrast but a much sharper image and more vibrant colours because of the separate processing of blues, greens and whites. Being designed with the HD-friendly native resolution of 1,366 x 768 and a grand contrast ratio of 1300:1 means the picture you get is rather splendid. Despite to good image, occasionally you do get some noise interference like you’re connected up to a fuzzy signal. The Super Patterned Vertical Alignment (S-PVA) of the liquid crystal making up the picture adds to the quality of the image and with the super wide viewing, according to Sony allows you to watch the set across a 178 degree arch without any problem with colour or contrast. The digital tuner is easy to use and the seven day EPG makes recording programmes in advance a doddle, making you less reliant on your Sky + box. Sound quality from the single bulky speaker at the bottom of the TV wasn’t bad although it lacks bass. But then if you’re going to get an LCD the chances are you’ll have it hooked up to external speakers for the full experience anyway. | | What's In The Box? | | 32 inch TV, remote control, power cable. | | Overall Opinion | | On the whole the Sony Bravia KDL-32S2010 is a good TV. The Bravia engine together with the Live Colour system enhances the viewing experience. However there is still room for improvement and the depth of black could still be worked on. And also, only having one HDMI port is a bit of a letdown. |
