Samsung LE40M87BDX LCD TV Review
LE40M87BDX Review
Design
The design of the LE40M87DBX is simple yet very stylish. It's as if Samsung have got over their “lets make every TV as highly polished black as possible” stage and are now at the “lets make this LCD TV look stylish and sophisticated” stage. The LE40M87 is finished in black but with subtle touches of brushed stainless steel, the corners have been slightly curved so there are no sharp edges.
Setup/Installation
We set the LE40M87 up with a Blu Ray player, normal analogue connection and a digital Tv connection to carry out this review. The Blu Ray and Digital TV were easy to set up but the analogue channel-setup was a bit of a pain because it jumbled up all the channels so BBC1 was on channel 5. The remote is very simple and all set up is done through the menu button. Colour settings were easy to use for this test although ultimately we left the settings as factory set.
Features
3 X HDMI's - one of which is side mounted, Picture Resolution 1920*1080 full 1080p, 15,000:1 Contrast Ratio, 2x 10 watt speakers.
The panel also incorporates Samsung's new technology including “Super Clear Panel” technology which means faded blacks should be a thing of the past. And a 127% wide colour Gamut which means that bright greens and reds should be more vibrant and bright. Samsung have tries to solve the main problems with Lcd screens by using their new “Movie Plus” technology which helps to reduce judder and shaky images when watching sport.
Performance
As you can expect, any TV that has as many features as we have listed above is going to be very good, but we were still surprised by how well the LE40M87BDX handled football though the digital source. There was no shuddering or jerkiness even when the ball was moving at high speeds. To get a true feel for how good this screen really was we used the Blu ray player to try out a couple of new films. First we tried Spider-Man 2 which was fine and the wide colour gamut really meant that the colours on the screen were bright and vibrant. To test the black levels we used one of my favorite films Donnie Brasco, the black level were sharp and even with the lights off there was very little back light coming though the screen. Overall I couldn’t fault the performance of the LE40M87BDX my one criticism was that the sound quality was nowhere near as punchy as we have seen from some of the top end Panasonic and Toshiba screens.

Overall Opinion
For performance definately one of the best TV’s we have ever had the pleasure of testing. For a true cinema experience you will defiantly need to invest in a surround sound system.
