A review for the Samsung Digimax i6 PMP Digital Camera

Welcome to one of the skinniest supermodels of all digital cameras on the market today. Packed with so many great high-tech features it has got to be one digital camera that Samsung are very proud of. Here, we take the Samsung Digimax i6 on a road test to see what it's really made of.

Design

The fuller figured Samsung Digimax i6 digital camera is usually easier to handle and you don’t worry so much about dropping it, but with this svelte little number you really don’t have that concern as it has a well thought of wave grip that hugs the right hand side of the camera, fooling you into thinking that you have got a sturdier model in your mit. All buttons and dials are well situated on the reverse right side with the only exception being the power button and the ASR (Advanced Shake Reduction) button, which are on the top. The battery compartment also has the memory card section enclosed and above the handy grip is an earphone plug. The speaker is situated on the top left hand side so you need to be careful that you are not covering it whilst in action. The all important measurements are 96mm x 61mm x 18.5mm (WxHxD) making the Samsung i6 a pleasure to hold.
Features
You can’t help but grow very attached to this Samsung as not only does it have it’s very own MP3 player installed it has PMP (Personal Media Player), it really is a multi-functional wonder. You can actually listen and get inspiration from your own music while taking your shots and there are not many cameras around today that allow that! The ASR on this model is so essential and when viewing the example shots of this feature we were amazed by how much the degraded images had been corrected. The movie function is really simple to use compared to other digital compacts and instructs you through the process on-screen using single words for extra simplicity. It shoots movies at 30fps and is taken at 640x480 VGA, like TV. You can pause a recording and resume at a later date and even edit within the camera, so you can have a go at making a movie and add your own music. Your mates really will be jealous! So will it take ages to download all the data, I hear you say? This little beauty has a 2.0 USB transfer rate of 480 Mbps. The 2.5in LCD screen has a special multi-layer coating which reduces light reflection, so when your on the beach for example the sun light will not stop you from viewing or taking your images.
Performance
With the Samsung Digimax i6 it allows you to have automatic and manual exposure control along with 11 Scene exposure modes and text recognition mode. The camera's switch on time is fairly quick but not over impressive, and takes around 2 seconds to switch on and capture a photo. The focusing is quite speedy at around 0.4 seconds, but shutter response is a bit slow at around 0.2 seconds. The image playback mode is quick, and it’s easy to zoom in on your last shot and check for blur with the zoom control, but this has usually been corrected with the ASR. Moving from picture to picture is quick but you can also get an overview of 9 shots at a time. Continuous shooting is quite disappointing and takes 1.1 second at least for each shot (slower than 1fps) and the screen switches off meaning you can't see what you are taking photos of. The different menu options can get a bit confusing, as there are so many different modes and options to choose from and the image you have last taken stays on the screen and the menu is displayed over it so it is quite hard to see the writing in the menu.
What's In The Box?
Rechargeable battery, AC adapter, Tripod adapter, Camera strap, USB lead, earphones.
