Samsung Digimax L85 Digital HD Camera Review
Lisa Malyon
First impressions are that this camera isn’t the smallest on the market and it weighs quite a bit too but the rubber coating on the body overcomes this by making it easier to hold. It’s simplistic design is good, with the command dial on the top and LCD screen on the back it is pretty much what we’ve come to expect. The LCD screen is a good size at 2.5in and has the added advantage of being high resolution. The L85 is a well specified camera with a high-resolution 8.1 megapixel-chip, impressive 5x optical zoom and it also offers a wide range of shooting modes catering for photographers who like to experiment. You’ll enjoy using the manual shutter-priority, aperture-priority and program modes plus loads of preset scene modes making it nice and easy to use. The HD element uses HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface), to deliver images that retain the resolution quality of the image on an HDTV screen. You don‘t, however, need to have a HDTV compatible screen to Play back your images on TV which is good. More importantly there is a wide screen mode which changes the view on the screen to wide screen format. Although this option reduces the quality to a maximum of five-megapixels, it is worth it to see the playback on to a wide screen TV. You can expect to be impressed by the image quality - it is second to none. Exposure is accurate and the L85 keeps nice balanced tones. Colour saturation is also very well controlled. The camera comes with an accessory pack that includes a docking station too. Overall Opinion The Samsung Digimax L85 Digital HD Camera is a superb camera that has hit the shelves at just the right time. With HDTV being the craze - this camera is such a perfect accomplice. Lisa Malyon It’s one of the first cameras to exploit the quality of HDTV and it is certainly doing it with style. The Samsung Digimax L85 is clearly aimed at those of you who enjoy viewing photos and videos from your camera on your TV; and why not now HDTV is offering superb quality performance.
