Pure Digital OASIS DAB Digital Radio Review

editor

With DAB radio developing and growing in leaps and bounds it is no wonder that we are now have a huge choice of DAB radios to choose from. One of the most distinctive, versatile and durable devices on the market is the Pure Digital OASIS DAB Digital Radio.

The design and look of the Oasis is sturdy and solid, this radio is built to last in the harshest of conditions, however the silver and white casing combined with the chiseled edges and the rounded corners of the face soften the look which results in an elegant design that looks as solid as a brick: The Oasis wouldn’t look out of place in the kitchen of refined home or the on the job with a burly bricklayer.

The controls layout and design is straightforward and uncomplicated. Below the 2 line, 16 character LCD display are a menu and info button, one each side of the 4 preset buttons. Below those are the chunky rotary volume and tuner knobs each side of the standby/power button; the power button is circled by a light that let you see if the radio is off, on or on standby. All of the controls are covered in a durable rubber coating and sealed to help protect the radio for the elements if outdoors for example; however this isn’t to say the device is waterproof; it’s resilient but not indestructible.

The Oasis has full Band III reception capability that will give you access to every UK DAB station. The radio auto-tunes DAB stations and can be selected using the tuning knob; the stations name is displayed on the LCD display and can be listed alphabetically or in order of the most popular selected; for quick selection of your favourite stations can be preset. As well as having headphone output the Oasis has input connectors to hook up an iPod, CD player or MiniDisc and a USB port for software upgrades. The radio includes a durable, rubber, screw-on aerial that can be tucked away in a recess while on the move, and the sturdy molded handle helps too.

The sound quality of the Oasis is fairly impressive considering it outputs from a single mono speaker; the digital audio is clear and crackle-free. The Oasis can be enjoyed in the kitchen or bathroom, at a barbecue or on building site and the impressive rechargeable battery life will provide up to 15 hours of digital radio in one sitting.
Pros
+ Sturdy design. Can connect iPod, MiniDisc, CD player. Auto tuner. Straightforward controls. Battery life.

Cons
- Only one speaker
