Pioneer PDP-506XDE 50in Plasma TV Review
Lisa Malyon

| The sleek, black piano black design of the 50in Plasma PDP-506XDE makes it seem surprisingly slight. This is not to say that it doesn't offers big things! In terms of specification, it’s got 1280 x 768 resolution, 4000:1 contrast ratio, digital tuner and dual HDMI inputs. For those who want that in plain English - the picture quality is absolutely superb! Oversized plasmas such as this one usually sacrifice a good picture but that is not the case here. The cleanliness of the image and vibrancy of the colours is most striking. The only downfall worth mentioning is that the fast motion from this TV isn’t faultless. The sound is not the best ever as the speakers are nothing special, but they are clear and weighty enough. The PDP-506XDE gives you a choice between a 75 and 100Hz picture – for best results you are better off using the former for DVD and the latter for TV. DVDs are equally as impressive to watch as TV. It has all the usual inputs that you would expect like HDMI, component, RGB Scart, and S-Video. It features a seperate set-top box for receiving digital signals. It measures 72x122x9cm making it gloriously big and a pleasure to have at home. | ![]() |
