Panasonic have recently launched a brand new range of high definition ready LCD TV’s that are richly featured and allow us to have the state of the art equipment in our homes for a very reasonable price tag. Here, we check out the entry-level Panasonic TX-32LMD70, a 32 inch LCD TV with V-Real technology and an Ultra Wide viewing angle for extremely high picture quality, supporting 1080p. Design |
Panasonics new ranges of LCD TV’s are sleek and cool with a high quality matt black frame and the option of either a stand or wall mounting. The speakers are located at the bottom of the screen and with the modern black finish, rather than the trademark silver, this TV will add a touch of class to any living space.
Features
Panasonic have included V-Real technology with the TX-32LMD70, and we are so glad they did as this provides you with the V-Real 2 Processor and the V-Real 2 Driver which provides the enhanced fast motion handling capabilities amongst other things. The ‘Processor’ side provides you with high quality incoming video images along with the Digital Processing Chip (1080p) to ensure optimum results. The connectivity on the TX-32LMD70 is good with 2 HDMI and 2 SCART connections along with the usual s-video and component outputs, although not overly impressive as the top of the range Panasonic TX-32LXD700 has 3 HDMI connections (2 at the rear and one up front), however the LMD70 is more an entry level model and this will also reflect in the price. The refresh rate on the TX-32LMD70 is 50Hz compared to 100Hz of the next model up, the TX-32LXD70 but we are yet to witness the exact difference between these refresh rates which may have interesting results. Panasonic have included the Viera Link with the TX-32LMD70 which uses high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) connections to automatically switch between different devices and operate them using a single remote control. The resolution is 1366x768 and the LMD70 supports 1080p.
Performance
We have checked out the performance of many different HD ready LCD TV’s that are on the market today, but the colour reproduction and depth of the images displayed on the Panasonic TX-32LMD70 are truly outstanding and are the most impressive we have seen on a 32 inch screen. The colours are rich and vibrant and we found ourselves tilting our heads to find a flaw with the images, but just couldn’t. The movements of fast moving objects were handled immaculately and we struggled to notice a difference between the refresh rate saga, however there was a slight drag, but only very slight. When watching standard definition TV, images were crystal clear and amazingly sharp and made us wonder whether high definition was required at all, however this made us quite excited in anticipation of the HD images if the SD ones were this good. The sound quality was nearly as good as the image quality with absolute clarity and sharpness. We have been informed that the future model TX-LMD700 will have V-Audio Surround, which is Panasonic’s Smart Sound Speaker System and SRS TruSurround XT, so it maybe worth hanging on to those pennies for a little while longer.
Overall Opinion
For an entry level HD Ready LCD TV, we were more than impressed with the Panasonic TX-32LMD70, with stunning images and the sound to match; you can’t go wrong for just over £600. If you have a little more cash to splash, you may want to invest it in the higher spec models which are the TX-32LXD70 and TX-32LXD700.
