Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 Review

Lisa Malyon Step aside for the new arrival of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1. The big news is (ironically) that it is the world’s smallest 10x optical zoom digital compact. Panasonic are well known for going from strength to strength with their technological advancements but this time they have gone that one step further. The tiny TZ1 measures a meagre 112 x 58.1 x 40.2 mm. It features the integration of a retractable lens system with folded optics technology, which means (in layman’s terms), that it offers an amazingly powerful 10x optical zoom which is contained within a slim and stylish body. The Panasonic TZ1 has 12.4mb internal memory and is compatible with an SD memory card. If battery life has been a problem for you in the past it won’t be in the future. The TZ1 boasts the newly developed Venus Engine III which allows you to take up to 250 pictures on a single charge. It also means that the camera has a shutter release time (the time taken between pressing the button and the picture being taken) of 0.006 sec minimum. This is an excellent feature as there is nothing more annoying than missing out on a good photo opportunity due to a long delay. The TZ1 sports the new ‘high sensitivity mode’ which reduces image blur caused by moving subjects as well as the Optical Image Stabiliser feature for those who suffer from shaky hands, making pictures nice and clear. You can also film movies which can be reviewed on widescreen television. As well as these cool features, the TZ1 comes with 18 scene modes like soft skin, baby, fireworks and food, for example. The 2.5in LCD screen is massive on such a small camera which is an added bonus. As if this camera isn’t selling itself already, it also boasts a ‘High Angle Mode’ which means the LCD display is visible when holding the camera at different angles. So, for such a small camera, I can safely say, the amount it can offer is definitely is the opposite!

Pros
+ The 10x optical zoom and the size of course!

Cons
- People with large hands may find it a bit fiddly.
