Pqi Mpack P600 30GBPQI mPack p600 30GB Digital Media Player Review
If you want to watch TV on the move, the PQI mPack P600 30GB Digital Media Player is the answer to your prayers. It does everything you could possibly want from a portable TV, and more. Don’t be put of by the unfamiliar brand (as I was), compared to some of the well know brands like Samsung and Archos, the performance of the mPack P600 wins hands down. Design Looks certainly can be deceiving, especially in this case. Before you open the lid on the mPack P600 it looks lie a rather boring, hand-sized lump of technology, but as soon as you lift the lid and reveal the massive 100mm widescreen and the extensive control panel you will be sucked in by what this little beauty has to offer. The silver design is futuristic and hassle free, compared to other players where you need a stand to erect the TV, this clever, original design has eliminated the need for one. So, it’s designed like a laptop that can sit in your hand, even in my girly hand which is refreshing. We also like the closed-in design as it protects the screen from damage too. There is no need for oversized antennae either making it more convenient and fulfilling its role as ‘portable’ media player. The easy-to-use control panel uses the familiar symbols that you’d see on a DVD player so everyone can get to grips with it. The LCD screen is one of the best on offer with a 480 x 272 pixel resolution and 16 million colours so you should expect to be amazed by what you see. |
Features The mPack P600 is choc-a-block with features and is more compatible than any other portable media player. It reads HDTV resolution AVIs and DVD files and supports audio formats including MP3, AC3, WAV, OGG. It also acts as an image decoder of JPEG, GIF and BMP files. You can download photos straight from your digital camera and store them on the mPack P600 via a USB cable. The menu is really quirky and 3D, you’ll have fun whizzing through the menu options and using the drag and drop system for file transfers. You’ll enjoy the added extras, including the slideshow maker, calendar, phonebook and Java games. The mPack P600 has got a pair of integrated 4 watt speakers which work very well. The setting options are slightly jargon-full which is a disappointing (when it was all going so well). Ensure you keep the instruction booklet near-by and you shouldn’t have too much trouble understanding what some options mean. It comes with a smart, expertly designed carry-case to keep it from any unwanted damage. |
Performance The mPack P600 doesn’t cut any corners when it comes to performance. The screen is sharp and animated and can handle movies at full DVD quality. Although the mPack does lots of cool stuff, it doesn’t dilute the performance of the main feature. The video playback is exceptional, providing awesome clarity and resolution. Compared to the Archos AV700, the performance is superb. The colours are the strong and confident - the best we’ve seen on a portable player. Detail is good without any sign of stutters or skipping, giving you a hassle-free viewing experience. Just as exceptional as the picture quality - is the audio. Compared to the mouse-like squeak that we managed to drag out of the Archos AV700, the sound on this piece of kit is a much better contender. Loud enough in every environment and clear enough on dialogue and music, we had no qualms really. You can get about 4 hours of viewing time (compared to 3.5 from the Archos A700) which is good. |
Overall Opinion If you consider the quality performance on offer from the mPack P600 and the exceptional price you would have to a agree that you are on to a winner. It really is hard to beat. No other portable media players come near, the design is original and hassle-free which is a big seller for us. |
