A review of the Olympus Mju 750 digital camera
You only need to look at the Olympus Mju 750 and you can just tell that it is going to be a competitive model in the digital camera race. It oozes style and class and with 7.1 mega pixels and the ever successful Image Stabilisation, the other mid-range ultra-compacts had better watch their backs. Design |
Compared to many other ultra-compact digital cameras, the Olympus Mju 750 is a little on the chunky side and you could say that it looks like it has had one too many Mince Pie’s. Apart from needing a New Year’s resolution to shed a few pounds with an Olympus Fitness Trainer, the Mju 750 has a lovely, shiny, silver body (which is also available in black). The chunky, wedge part of the camera is mainly on the right half of it and it slants in to the left side and becomes more slender (it sure makes it easier to grip onto, bit like a love handle!). The front of the camera has the zoom lens which elegantly protrudes from the camera body and is circled in shiny silver. There is a narrow panel that hugs the left side of the camera with the Olympus logo on which acts as a finger grip. There is a flash at the top of the front, but no viewfinder. On the top, there is an anti-shake button, shutter button and the power button. Moving on to the back, the 2.5” LCD screen takes up the space with function buttons to the right of it. On the underside of the Mju 750 is the battery and memory card compartment. The Olympus Mju 750 weighs in at only 120g and measures an average 96 x 54 x 24.3mm.
Features
As we have just explained the body of the Olympus Mju 750 is pretty average looking but with an air of sophistication and some nice, shiny, chrome additions, but it’s when you turn it on that the Mju 750 really starts to shine. There are not many manual controls with the Mju 750 but the features list is pretty exciting. The weatherproof feature is more than welcome again with this model along with the others in the Mju range and this does not mean Waterproof as we hope it is not mistaken for, so please do not take it swimming with you, but it would love to keep you company by the pool. Olympus have furnished the Mju 750 with digital and optical Image Stabilisation, 5x optical zoom and a sensitivity mode of up to 1,600 for extra assistance in low lighting situations. There is a whopping 29 shooting modes to aid your shooting needs, however some of them may be a little unnecessary but never mind. Olympus never seems to disappoint when it comes to macro modes and the Olympus Mju 750 us no exception as there are three macro modes to utilise. The Standard macro only gets as close as 20cm, but the Super Macro mode will get you in as close as 3cm, the final Macro mode is Underwater, for which you will, of course, need the Underwater Housing.
Performance
The Olympus Mju 750 was everything we hoped for and more as it performed extremely well in many of our tests. The start-up time to shoot was the only let down for us as it took just over 2 seconds, with the between shot time being 2.2 secs, but this was increased to a very sluggish 4.5secs with the flash enabled. However, on a more positive note, the shutter lag time was only 0.6 seconds. When the macro modes were in use, particularly the Super Macro mode, the results were great with no blurring and fantastic realistic colours and tones. This was the same across the board with all images produced from the Olympus Mju 750 and even at ISO 800 noise was very minimal. Colours were again, very realistic with exceptional clarity and sharpness and we were very impressed with our results. We were also very impressed with the Mju 750’s 2.5” LCD screen which was exceptionally bright and clear and was visible in all conditions, with 215,000 pixels; images were very life-like.
What's In The Box?
Stylus 750 digital camera, LI-42B Li-Ion rechargeable battery, AC charger with power cord, USB cable, Audio/Video cable, Wrist strap, Manual, CD-ROM with Olympus Master Software, Warranty Card.
Overall Opinion
Our initial thoughts about the Olympus Mju 750 digital camera were fairly accurate as it was impressive in many areas, but if Olympus had worked on the start-up time a little harder, the Olympus Mju 750 would be high on the list of best digital cameras. Good images produced and all for a very reasonable price.

Olympus MJU 750 Review The Olympus MJU 750 has a great specification. It is weatherproof, is more or less pocket sized, has a 5x optical zoom lens and image stabilisation. Another very useful feature is the built in photography guide. The problem is the camera is let down by its picture quality... read | |||
