Nokia E60 Mobile Phone review

Design
The first thing you notice when you take the Nokia E60 out of the box is its size. The phone is a bit on the bulky side, but it’s not bigger than other smart phones on the market offering similar features. The E60 weighs 117g (with battery) and it measures 115 x 49 x 16.9 mm.  The Nokia E60 comes in a very cool silver finish and it somehow reminds us of those old tv remote controls from 20 years ago. Nokia has opted here for a very simple design and we think they have spent most of their development budget on the interior of the phone, and there is were this phone starts to shine.
The screen on the E60 is gorgeous! It’s a similar size to the screen on the Series 60 phones, but that’s were the similarities end. The Nokia E60 has 4 times more resolution than the phones from series 60. The 352 x 408 pixels bright display is definitely a very strong selling point for this phone.  If we had to choose a word to describe the E60’s design it would definitely be SIMPLICITY.  The phone is well constructed and it feels extremely solid when you hold it. It gives the feeling of being unbreakable, although we don’t recommend you to drop it on the floor, just in case.
The front of the phone is dominated by the large display and the keys, which include two soft keys and a navigation joystick between the green and red receiver keys.  The back of the phone could not be simpler: a plain silver cover is all you will see when you turn the phone around. And, get this, no camera lens, I'm afraid.  The sides of the phone are made of silver and black plastic and hold the additional metal buttons. On the left side we find the volume control buttons and a voice recorder button and on the right side we have the loudspeaker and the RS-DV-MMC memory card slot.
Features
Well, here is where the Nokia E60 stars to get interesting. The phone runs on 9.1 OS and is based on 3rd edition Series 60, and uses the same interface as the Nokia N80. It supports GPRS, UMTS, Bluetooth (up to 5 connections at the same time), IrDa, USB, Push to talk and most importantly, WI-FI, so you can connect to the internet where ever you are though a Wi-Fi Hotspot. You can set the phone to detect and connect to Hotspots automatically or you can do it manually.
The Nokia E60 has a very cool feature that allows you to rotate the phone to horizontal view, giving you more space to display more things. This little feature will make internet browsing much more appealing. Bad news for left handed users as the screen only rotates 90 degrees clockwise.  The E60 come with 64Mb shared memory, although you can expand the memory using a Reduced Size Dual Voltage (1.8/3V) MultiMedia Card (up to 2G) which you will have to buy separately.  Nokia decided not to include a camera on this tri-band smart phone, and to be honest, we don’t think business users will miss it. There is also no FM receiver on the E60, although you will be able to play your favourite MP3s throught the Music Player installed on the phone. It also has a Flash player and a Real Player, allowing you to play videos.
The phone supports Multimedia Messaging Service (Version 1.2) for text, voice clips, video clips and still images.
Worth mentioning is the Hands- and eyes-free name dialing and application launching by voice commands.
There are two web browsers on the Nokia E60. One is used for connecting to services web pages and for downloading ring tones and games while the second one (same as on the N80) is used for full internet browsing. You can open web pages just like you do on a PC. It also has a mouse cursor, controlled by the joystick, which will make surfing the net a very pleasurable experience.  As this phone is destined to business users, Nokia has cleverly installed Word, Excel and PowerPoint editors so you can view and edit documents on the move.  There are also the Notes, Converter, Calculator and Recorder applications in the Organizer menu. The Converter converts Currencies, Area, Energy, Length, Mass, Power, Pressure, Temperature, Time, Velocity and Volume.
Performance
The Nokia E60 performs very well as a business smartphone and we couldn’t really find any faults on it. The E60 runs very quickly for a smartphone. There aren’t any major delays in the work speed in any application even when using the memory card.  Browsing the internet was easy and the bright display, together with the Rotate Screen feature and the mouse cursor makes the whole internet browsing an absolute pleasure.  The E60 found our wireless connection instantly and it connected to it automatically with no problems.  The menus are clear and very user-friendly and you will get used to them very quickly indeed.  The main speaker on the phone produces clear and loud sound during calls and the loudspeaker is powerful enough to be heard in crowded places or even if the phone is on your pocket.
Nokia claims that the battery will last up to 6.4 hours on talk mode and up 8.3 days on standby. On our tests, the battery lasted just under 7 days with an average voice and text use, but when we started using the internet, the battery life went down significantly, although no more than you’d expect for a 3G smartphone.
Overall Opinion
The Nokia E60 is an all around 3G smartphone and it has everything you would expect from a business phone. Yes, it’s on the bulky side, but which smartphone isn’t?  We liked the simple and classic design and we didn’t really find any faults while using it. If you are looking for an all round 3G smartphone that works well under pressure you will love the Nokia E60.
