Review of the Nokia 6233 Mobile Phone

Nokia are marketing the 6233 at business peeps, by reassuring them that they don’t have to give up style in place for business applications, but in our opinion, the 6233 is the worst looking model yet.

Design

The 6233 comes in two models, black and silver, of which we reviewed the latter.  So, apart from being shiner than a well-lit Christmas tree bauble, it was altogether a bit too long in our opinion.  The 108mm length means it can just squeeze into your pocket, but by no means does it sit comfortably.  The buttons are located in the normal Nokia way, but this time there’s an additional central controller to make selections.  It’s designed in the same way as the Sony Ericsson W850i, in that you turn it horizontally to take a photo, so that the shutter release button is located as it is on a standard camera.
Features
Like everything Nokia, the 6233 model is jam-packed with helpful features, providing both the business and pleasure user with enough to keep them smiling.  First off is the massive 70MB expandable memory, although it only comes with 6MB internal memory as standard.  It has a WAP 2.0 XHTML browser, which is a great version of mobile broadband, so you can expect high-speed internet at you fingertips.   With the internet at hand you can read and send emails, especially with the Nokia Java Email Client, making it even easier.   It even has a spam filter to stop those time wasting junk emails.  You can download music and listen in 3D stereo with surround sound or alternatively you can choose the FM radio, if you fancy a change.  The rocker buttons on the left side controls the volume and zoom for the camera.  The 2-megapixel camera boasts an 8x digital zoom, and uses the whole screen as a viewfinder for taking photos.  We were happy to find a landscape mode, which is a missing feature on so many models.  If you’re needing to take more than a still photo, you can take advantage of the integrated video player shooting, downloading and playback.  It supports 3GPP, H.263 video, MPEG-4, and AMR.  If we were to mention every feature that the Nokia 6233 has to offer we would be here all day, but it’s definitely worth taking a look at the spec list.
Performance
The easily navigated and animated icon-based menu is so easy to use, so it was a pleasure to browse the phone and see what it could do.  Taking and downloading photos, videos and music was simple, and very easy to file in the well designed file manager.  The keypad was comfortable to use for those with larger hands, this could be said to be the only benefit of its long and large design.  On a few occasions we utilized the broadband services to request sport updates and for sending and receiving emails.  The internet was great, with fast connection and quick page loading.  We got 44 hours of stand-by time and 3.25 hours of talk time seperately out of the rechargeable battery.  It took 4.5 hours to full recharge.   With a huge amount of applications and connectivity options the Nokia 6233 is competing well in the market.
Overall Opinion
Our negative first impressions due to the Nokia 6233’s shiny silver design soon gave way once we saw what it had, and what it could in fact do.  It provided us with everything we could have expected and more.  Samsung’s gorgeous E900 comes to mind, one that completely knocked us off our feet with its stunning good looks, but after a week of poor performance we wanted to throw it out of the window, so it just shows that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.
