Navman ICN750 Sat Nav Review

Some people go for blonds.  Others like tall leggy girls.  Some women like short hairy men, while there are those who go for waxed all over look. It’s all about your own preference.  And that’s exactly the same when it comes to picking a GPS system – it’s all about personal taste.  Now take this for example.  In our opinion it’s not the stud of the sat nav market, but never the less while it might fall short on looks, it more than makes up on what it can do for you… and that’s a fair bit.  The Navman iCN750 is a reliable partner for your car, who with a bit of love and attention will be there for you on every journey and never get angry when you take a wrong turning.

Design

The iCN750 reminds us of the first mobile phones - remember the ones that looked like a brick.  It's big and chunky and maybe a bit clumsy looking but when you see how well it performs you won't mind.  The black plastic casing seems fairly sturdy and encases a four inch colour touch screen.  On the right of the machine are two easy to press buttons on the right that take you directly to petrol stations and parking while the left hand side has a slot for an SD card and headphones.  The iCN750 also comes with a discreetly placed camera at the back of the device - now that's something you weren't expecting, was it.
Setup/Installation
Sat Navs are a bit funny.  They all have their own little quirks and it takes a while to get them to work to your tune.  But once you've had a couple of days acquainting yourself with your new Navman iCN 750 it's very easy to use.
Features
If there’s something you want from a sat nav device then this is likely to have it.  On the move you won’t get lost ever again.  The NavMan iCN750 comes bumper packed with goodies.  The pocket size design comes with a four-inch colour touch screen that’s easy to use.  As well as British maps it also comes with European maps so there’s no need to leaf through loads of maps.  Now here’s something that’s special to the iCN750 – it comes with a camera.  It’s not an SLR but never the less the one megapixel camera is a great touch and means you can take snaps to remind you of that little deli you loved so much in Roma.  There’s all the usual functions including POI’s and you can add points of interests to the list too and can also store your favourite or most recently visited destination.  There’s full postcode search facilities as well as street searches.  And there’s more.  You’ve got options of multiple routes allowing you to pick the shortest or fastest route to your destination and of course there’s the speed camera detector which can be updated from their website.  There are two useful parking and fuel buttons so a quick press tells you exactly where to go.  And you can subscribe to a free live traffic update should you want that facility.
Performance
Like Jordon, while you might not like the package, after having a bit of a feel, you inevitably fall in love with it.  There’s not much different on this from any other sat nav on the market other than the camera which while not a high resolution camera does mean you can take pics when you’re driving, although we’re not quite sure why you wouldn’t use your phone instead… but then it’s not our place to question such things.  The voice on the 750 gives you clear and precise warnings of when to turn, leaving you as the driver feeling calmer and more in control.  The refresh time on this product is good too – if you take a wrong turning it reassesses your directions in less than a minute, which gives you less time to get really, really lost.  If you need petrol or parking the buttons on the site are really useful giving you quick direction so the nearest of either of those choices.  And the touch screen isn’t temperamental, it’s receptive to your demands without you having to get aggressive and jab the screen a few hundred times.  If you’re typing the address or postcode the virtual keyboard is small but fast and there’s also a handy scroll wheel to help move you around.  And while in this country we have big yellow boxes indicating an approaching speed camera, the detector is a handy device particularly when you’re abroad and might not necessarily know what their speed cameras look like.
What's In The Box?
Navman iCN750, new security car mount, 12v car charger, AC Adaptor, USB cable and case.
Overall Opinion
What is there not to like about the Navman ICN750. It might not be the most attractive boy on the block but it's well meaning and does what you tell it to.  So in our books it's not bad and if means you'll never have to face a speeding ticket again or get lost or even find yourself getting tense while sitting in traffic, it's a good thing.
