The LG 42LG5000 is a 1080p HD Ready LCD TV with a contrast ratio of 50,000:1 to provide its viewers with the most detailed and vibrant images. The LG XD Engine on board also assists with this and ensures that images receive the up most attention along with the Intelligent Sensor, automatically adjusting the image settings to suit the viewing conditions, whilst also protecting against eye strain and reducing power consumption. TruCinema 24p at 120Hz will ensure that movies are displayed with no judder by showing them with the 5:5 pull down technique which displays images at 24fps at 5 times each for the same amount of time which eliminates judder completely. Connectivity has been carefully considered with 3 HDMI 1.3 outputs (supporting LG Simplink and Deep Colour), 2 at the rear and one on the side, as well as S-Video, composite and stereo audio all on the side too for ease of connection. Two SCARTs, a PC input and optical digital audio output are at the rear. There are a whole host of other features which LG have been working very hard on to ensure that you receive immaculate results. ClearVoice and SRS TRuSurround XT work together to provide and outstanding sound, EyeCare alters bright whites and deep blacks to ensure your eyes don't feel strained when watching for prolonged periods, Expert Mode allows you to manually adjust settings on the LG5000 to suit your individual desires, and Wide Colour Care increases the amount of colours that are displayed with each and every image. |

As we began to set-up the LG 42LG5000 LCD TV, the size of the TV made an impression on us with its slim depth of only 92mm. As we fired it up the next thing to attract our attention, was the great easy to use set-up menu which takes you through the set-up step by step, explaining everything as you go through. Once set-up was complete, we got down to sampling the many features on board. The colours stood out to us from the offset, with vibrant, bright tones and great deep and detailed blacks. High definition images were fantastic with clarity and brightness shining through but standard definition images let it down a bit, with lack of detail and many dull areas. The Sound systems used performed well and this is the area that usually lets a TV down, but in this case we think its a huge plus. |
| Overall Opinion |
The LG 42LG5000 LCD TV is a great TV with, stylish design, reasonable price tag and a great array of features to play around with to suit your viewing requirements. Standard definition images are is biggest flaw but for watching your Blu-ray DVD's and playing on a HD Xbox360/Playstation 3, this is the set for you. Other LG5000 TV's available are: LG 37LG5000, LG47LG5000, LG 52LG5000. |
