| LG has given us yet another affordable big brand model with the RZ-32LZ55 32in LCD set, however, this time the cost cutting process has resulted in a below average TV. Design The designers of the RZ-32LZ55 must have been given a miniscule budget as it’s probably one of the least aesthetically pleasing LCDs on the market. The plastic-look is tacky and is made even worse by the plastic strip running below the screen. Connections have all been kept tidy which is a bonus and really helps this ugly TV out. | Price is the key feature on the LG RZ-32LZ55 |
Features It didn’t take me long to figure out all the features on the RZ-32LZ55 – simply as there aren’t many. The biggest feature to brag about is that it is HD-Ready, but unfortunately it lacks a digital tuner. The connectivity is good, it has two scarts and a HDCP-enabled DVI jack which can accept PC signals as well as video. The LG XD Engine Image Processing System does an average job of boosting the dynamic range including contrast, flesh tones and colour response. It claims a contrast of 1200:1 and brightness of 600cd/m2 with a native resolution of 1366x768.
| Performance The RZ-32LZ55 is a pretty average performer. This is unfortunate as for less than £700 you tend to think you are getting a big brand bargain – how wrong we can be. The colours are okay and the fine detail is good, even better with HD source material. It is a shame that the black levels are so disappointing, they appear really shadowy, even with HD sources. It handled motion badly too, it struggled with anything faster than average speed giving a horrible blurry performance. Not only were the action scenes blurry but the audio also let them down by becoming distorted at times. Dialogue in normal scenes was clear enough. | Overall Opinion To be honest, I think I expected too much from the LG RZ32LZ55. I was a bit disappointed with what I got but on reflection I came to the conclusion that it is okay for such a small price tag. Even so, my advice is that anyone looking for an average performing TV for under a grand should consider looking at other ranges that offer a bit more on the performance and features front. | By Lisa Malyon |
