LG 37LC2D Review
Design
Like all things LG, the 32LC2D LCD HD Ready Television is a very stylish piece of technology. It comes in a cool matte-black finish with a large silver strip at the bottom to house the speakers. The LG 32LC2D ships with a sleek silver stand, but there are wall mounting options available that will allow you to hang the TV on the wall. There is a wide range of connections on the back of the unit, which includes one (yes, just one) HDMI input, a component video input, a composite video input, Stereo audio input and output, digital audio output, CAM slot, RF input, RF output, three scarts, D-sub PC input, PC audio input, remote control jacks, RS-232C jack and a S-video input. The unit weighs 34Kg and it measures 950(w) x 731(h) x 130(d) mm.
Features
The list of features on the LG 32LC2D was long when this television was released a few months ago, but compared to the newest LCD HDTVs that are being launched this year, the LG 32LC2D doesn’t seem to offer much. It uses XD engine technology, which is supposed to enhance noise reduction, improve colour response, and make pictures look sharper and more contrast-rich. The LG 32LC2D includes a built-in digital tuner fully compatible with the Freeview 7-day electronic programme guide. Other key specifications for the LG 32LC2D are a very acceptable contrast ratio of 1,600:1 and a native pixel count of 1,366 x 768. The LG 32LC2D comes with easy to use and well organised menus. A feature worth mentioning is the fact that it has separate MPEG and XD noise reduction options, which reduces the appearance of the digital decoder “blocking” noise typical of TV broadcasts and also other types of noise like grain and mosquito noise.
Performance
The first thing we would like to mention is how easy the LG 37LC2D is to set up. Just plug it in, switch it on and the LG will tune itself to all analogue and digital channels automatically. Broadcast programmes are sharp and the colour pallets produce a vibrant picture. Adjusting sound and picture settings is very easy indeed. You can choose between the set picture/sound settings or edit your own preferences in the user settings section. The only thing that lets the LG 37LC2D down is its poor black levels, making dark scenes to look a bit grey. The freeview function on the LG 37LC2D works very well. It is fast and responsive. The TV guide is well displayed and it offers some cool features, like the presence of a bar that shows you how much of the programme has passed. HD images on the LG 37LC2D are impressive, with impressive picture resolution and fantastic colours. We also tried the LG connected to our Xbox 360 and the results were great, showing fast frame rate and good image stability.
Overall Opinion
The LG 37LC2D looks great and provides good image quality and superb sound. We think this is very good value for money and if you are looking to upgrade your old TV set and enter the HD world, the LG 37LC2D is the one for you.
