Review of the Hewlett Packard Compaq TC1100 Tablet PC

Don’t move a muscle, work from home, use it in the gym, you could even swing it around your head if you really wanted to. The HP Compaq TC1100 Tablet PC is the perfect solution for those sweaty rush to work mornings when you need to get that all-important email sent off. Rush no longer you sweaty beast - arrive in style, all cool and collected. Its predecessor, the TC1000 has finally been updated, giving you the TC1100 with a 1GHz Pentium M Processor which puts on a speedy performance, giving you a better battery life in the long run.

Design

The TC1100 tablet PC looks very high-class, with its grey and black sleek design it fits in with most environments. It measures just 21.6cm x 2cm making it perfectly thin enough for convenience. We even found it easy to use in the gym, it perched on the display of the cross trainer as if it was made for it. It’s nice and light, weighing in at just 1.4kg so there's no sore shoulders whilst carrying it about. The largest feature is obviously the 10.4in XGA TFT Active Matrix Touch-screen which is used with a stylus. There is an on-screen keyboard, or alternatively you can use the included mini-keyboard or a normal keyboard through the USB port. The screen rotates 180 degrees making it perfect for those occasions when you need to present information to others. There is an option to use the TC1100 in both landscape and portrait formats, these are altered automatically, which is handy.

Setup/Installation

We had no problems getting the Hewlett Packard Compaq TC1100 tablet set up, from getting it out of the box to playing around with it, we clocked just 21 minutes.

Features

If connectivity excites you, the TC1100 will definitely press your buttons. It has 2 USB ports, a VGA port, a type II PC Card Slot and a Secure Digital Card Slot, and a trio of audio jacks. The 1000 Mhz processor is designed to give you a really nippy performance, making life that little bit easier without having to wait around. You get a good handful of effective software, including the Microsoft Windows XP tablet PC edition. It comes with 256MB internal memory but the SD card slots enable you to enhance it. To get the sound booming, HP have included the impressive SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio, it’s perfect for this size machine. The cherry on the top would have to be the lengthy three-year manufacturers warranty.

Performance

The Hewlett Packard TC1100 did everything we asked and more, it was ultimately responsive at all times, there was minimal waiting around when toggling between applications and programmes opened quickly too. The touch screen is really precise and we liked using the portable keyboard too. Without the mains we got an impressive four hours out of the battery.

Overall Opinion

The TC1100 tablet PC would satisfy every user in one way or another. It boasts so many nice features and looks and sounds so good, it would keep even the hard-to-pleasers happy. Due to the fast performance, it gives you an extended battery life making it perfect for catching up with emails before or after work on the train or at the gym.
