A review of the Casio Exilim Card Ex-S770 digital camera
Casio have called this the Exilim Card EX-S770 and we are sure the reasoning behind it is that it so compact and pocket friendly, it is like a credit card. With a depth of only 17.3mm it has got to be one of the skinniest digital camera we have had the pleasure to meet and what a good time we had together….. Design |
As we mentioned above, the ultra-slim body of the latest Casio digicam is a joy to hold as it fits so snug into the palm of your hand with dimensions of 94.5mm (w) x 60.4mm (h) x 17.3mm (d) and a weight of only 147g. We’re sure it is an absolute fashion accessory too as it is available in array of gorgeous colours, blue, red and silver. It has a plastic feel to the front of the camera, but not in a cheap way, more a smooth and trendy feel. The shiny silver lens adds a bit of class to the overall look of this Casio and there is a silver panel down the right hand side which assists with gripping onto its slim body. On top there is the power button and as well as next to the LCD screen there are a few menu shortcut buttons, which do come in rather handy. The LCD screen is a generous 2.8in which is lovely and bright and next to it is the d-panel with a very tiny button in the middle for the menu. No viewfinder on this model, but with the great LCD, it is not really missed.
Features
The Casio EX-S770 carries many, if not all, of the features of the Exilim range. With a 7.2 mega pixel CCD, a lens of 38-114mm equivalent zoom and the ever successful Image Stabilisation. The camera only reaches a disappointingly low ISO 400 sensitivity which is not too great for low-lighting or high speed use. We like the one touch video record button very much. You can be taking a video and then take a photo without changing any settings. The video pauses and picks back up during playback, almost seamlessly. There are no manual controls of shutter speeds or apertures, but we must remember that it is a point and shoot and that is just what it does. There is a great range of scene modes, probably the most we have seen on a digital camera and the Casio Exilim EX-S770 makes really good use of them to produce some outstanding snaps. You really can have some fun with your new pal and it we guarantee it you won’t leave the house without it. |
Performance
Despite a few teething problems, the EX-S770 performance was pretty impressive. The shutter lag time is a quick 0.4 seconds outdoors and only 1second indoors, and the power up to shoot time is a slick 1.2 seconds. Shots can be taken every 1.3 seconds after that. Don’t get too excited when you see the Quick Shot mode as you will think, like we did, that this will speed up the Shutter lag time from 0.4 seconds which it does, but the outcome was far less pleasing as the images were really grainy and with lots of editing work, were a waste of time. A good tip that we did find, was that if you half press the shutter release, the camera will find a focus lock and then take your shot, the outcome was much better with some very good, sharp snaps. Noise on the images wasn’t too bad, and the colours were reproduced really well, but we did notice that their wasn’t much detail to them.
What's In The Box?
Rechargeable Li-ion battery, USB cradle, USB cable, AV cable, AC adapter, wrist strap, CD drivers, quick reference guide.
Overall Opinion
The Casio Exilim EX-S770 was great fun to use and had so many great features packed into such a teeny body. It is very reasonably priced at around £279 and we think that its rivals should sit up and take note of its friendliness. Images do need a little attention though.
