Canon PowerShot A410 Review

Lisa Malyon

The PowerShot A410 is Canon’s latest release into the ’A’ series of budget compacts. It offers a set of basic features and functions making it ideal for the everyday happy snapper.

The PowerShot A410 has a 3-mega pixel CCD and a DIGIC 11 processing chip. Compared to other Canon cameras this is small, however, along with the strong flash it provides ample imaging power for everyday users and good 6 x 4 photos. It has a connection for USB, for which the cable is supplied, a DC socket and a tripod connector (which can come in very handy).

This model would have to be described as bulky, it measures 103 x 51.8 x 40.3mm and weighs 150g, so it’s lengthy too. It’s sturdiness feels nice and safe in your hand but you can forget squeezing it into your pocket or a small handbag.

Starting this camera up is quick and easy, the complete process of turning the camera on takes less than one second which is good compared to other cameras at this end of the market.

The A410 benefits from a longer optical zoom of 3.2x (equivalent to 41-131mm) which is infuriatingly slow and noisy. However, the longer zoom means the aperture is increased giving you more options when shooting in low light. Another feature is the Super Macro Mode which is perfect for those poorly lit social occasions too, but when using this mode close up the user needs a very steady hand for clear results.

The 1.5-inch LCD screen is of good quality but is very small for such a sizeable camera. It is also a bit on the dark side in normal light, luckily, the menu options are clear and easy to use making this less of a problem.

For those people who have missed out on good photo opportunities due to overlooking the charging of the battery, this camera is perfect as it requires just two AA alkaline batteries for power. Although Canon start you off by providing a 16MB multimedia card you will have to buy more memory storage as it has zilch internal memory.

Overall, if size is put aside, this camera is good for taking quick snaps, being easy to use and offering all the right features it provides you with a good photos for small price.

Pros
+ Easy to use
