Canon Canoscan 4200F Flatbed Scanner Review

What more can I say than - Its Canon and it’s affordable.

Design
As soon as you see the CanoScan 4200F it becomes obvious that it is Canon due to its basic, sleek, matt black design.  Keeping it simple – Canon have given the 4200F just 4 buttons – copy, scan, PDF and Email.   But don’t let the simple design fool you - the performance is far from simple.

Features
The scanner itself doesn’t have much to brag about as the brains are found in the software.  It comes with Arcsoft Photostudio for altering and enhancing and the Built-in software includes QARE Level 2 which we found perfect for restoring old photos for example.  It also includes CanoScan toolbox  - a scanning utility program that aids installation and last, but certainly not least – my favourite feature – the ScanSoft OmniPage SE which cleverly converts scanned text into a document.  On a less positive note, I was disappointed to find that the 4200F is not MAC compatible.

Performance
The 4200F is simple to operate from the word go – simply plug it in and off you go.  The process of scanning is surprisingly quick and easy and gives out a insignificant amount of noise which is refreshing change.

Overall Opinion
Image quality is not particularly outstanding but is certainly adequate, however, considering the price tag – the Canon CanoScan 4200F does a great job, quickly, quietly and without any hassle so I can’t complain.
