Apple iPod nano White (2 GB, MA004LL/A) MP3 Player Review
editor The iPod Nano is everything an iPod has to offer in miniature. The sleek design and all the functionality you would expect have been crammed into this MP3 player measuring only 9cm high, 4cm wide and an incredible 0.69cm deep. There are two models, the 2GB and the 4GB each in a choice of black or white; the 2GB can hold up to 500 songs and the 4GB 1000 and a fully charged battery will give you 14 hours of music playback and the sound quality is excellent. The Nano has a bright, clear 1.5-inch colour display and with the use of the distinctive Apple Click Wheel navigating through your music, photos; you can get up to 25,000 on the Nano, Audiobooks, Podcasts, Calendar and Contacts, games and other extras couldn’t be easier.
To add music and photos to your Nano you will have to sync to a computer, there are two options, a USB cable or Dock Connector; both will sync and charge your Nano; the Dock in addition will connect up to your sound system. Syncing personal data such as contacts and calendar information is featured on the Nano as normal for Mac users, and now syncing Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express contacts and calendars for Microsoft Windows users is available. To provide a level of security Apple have created Screen Lock, the screen displays a 4-digit combination lock that can be set using the Click Wheel; once set you can operate the play and pause buttons only; all other functions are restored once the 4-digit code is entered, which ensures your personal information is secure. Other accessories include Lanyard headphones so you can wear your iPod around your neck while listening to music, alternatively; if you are doing something a little more sporty the Nano armbands are a great solution; they and the Tubes (Nano covers) come in 5 attractive colours. The Nano is flash-based, files are stored in memory not on a hard drive, this ensures listening to music is virtually “skip free” which is ideal if you are working out or on a run and an added feature is a Stopwatch which is great for recording, saving and reviewing lap time data.
Overall Opinion
The Apple iPod Nano is an excellent MP3 player with impressive design, quality and functionality. We tested several MP3 players and the iPod Nano came top on sound quality. The sound is crisp and a lot louder than other MP3 players in the market. We like its small size and we think Apple was very generous giving the iPod Nano such a long battery life. If you can afford the extra money, we recommend you to go for the 4 GB model.
