Washing Machine That Uses Only A Cup Of Water
The main principal of a washing machine technology has been pretty much the same for the last 50 years. conventional washing machines rotate water around the clothes and extract the dirty water. This method works well but there has always been two major flaws, the first one being that your clothes are soaking wet and the second being the amount of water used.
Well Xeros Ltd a new start up company thinks is has the answer, it claims it has wash a full basket of clothing with just two cups of water. The way this new technology works is by pounding the clothes with thousands of plastic chips that remove and absorb dirt. The inventor Professor Stephen Burkinshaw claims it could save billions of litres of water each year. He adds "The performance of the Xeros process in cleaning clothes has been quite astonishing. We've shown that it can remove all sorts of everyday stains including coffee and lipstick while using a tiny fraction of the water used by conventional machines."
It could be on the UK market as early as 2009. Expect it to be used in the washing and dry-cleaning industries
