How great would it be if your company had 42 of the top 50 books in the Apple App Store? Pretty great! Well that's what happened this weekend as 'Thuat Nguyen' managed to get nearly all the top 50 slots according to Engadget.com
Was this a mistake on Apple's part or a hack by Thuat Nguyen who seems to run the "mycompany" publishers, and who's web site suspiciously forwards users to a parked domain with no content. Not the kind of site you'd expect from a legitimate book seller is it?
Apple, makers of the popular MacBook, have subsequently removed all 42 books from the Top 50, in fact they've removed everything from "mycompany" from the iTunes store completely and things look to be back to normal, but this does point to some worries about iTunes and App Store security.
They were obviously not legitimate if Apple took the time to wipe them of the face of the App Store, combine this with reports of users accounts supposedly being charged hundreds of dollars for the books in question, without actually buying them. This is looking very bad, so log in, check your account history and change your password! You might even find some suspicious books in a foreign language sitting on your Apple iPad bookshelf!
We'll let you know if we hear any official statements from Apple regarding this.
