With the release of the closed-beta for StarCraft 2 last week, gamers finally have a taste of the game they've been waiting a decade to play. Thousands of players from across the globe will be receiving waves of invites to join the updated Battle.net platform to begin play. Countries set to receive beta keys include North America, Australia, Taiwan, Europe, New Zealand, and Korea.
The updated Battle.net will include cross-game communication, similar to Microsoft's Live online service. Battle.net is set to be the place for all things Blizzard, allowing players to buy games and additional add-on content. The first game of the StarCraft 2 trilogy, Wings of Liberty is set for a release mid-2010.
