The next thing we had a look at was the Sony Vaio UX Premium Micro PC, which is an ultra portable micro PC running Windows Vista Business operating system. The Vaio UX Premium comes with a 1.3GHz Intel Core Solo U1500 processor, a 4.5-inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM and more importantly, a 32GB SSD solid state disk, which not only provides faster boot up times, but also a longer battery life compared with traditional hard drives. We were impressed by the light weight of the Sony Vaio UX Premium, at just 1.2 pounds, making it a very portable device that gives you all the power of a PC on the go. The Vaio UX Premium comes with built-in 1.3 megapixel camera on the back of the unit and a small 0.3 megapixel one on the front. This tiny Micro PC will be available from February this year at a retail price of $2,500, so start saving!!! Next in line was the Sony Vaio Digital Living System TP1. When we first saw Vaio TP1 Living Room PC we though: “What is that round thing next to the TV?” “That round thing” is a very stylish fully functional Media Centre desktop that connects to your TV set and will allow you to record TV and movies directly into its 300GB hard drive and play them later. The Vaio TP1 Living Room PC will also allow users to connect to the Internet so they can a full web browsing experience on their TV sets. It uses a mobile Core 2 Duo Processor and it has 2GB of Ram. HDMI connectivity, integrated TV tuner and RF keyboard are some of the fantastic features the Vaio TP1 has to offer. The stylish Sony Vaio Digital Living System TP1 will be released in February at a retail price of $1,599 Also connected to the same TV set was the new Sony WA1R Wireless Audio Device. A very handy machine that streams audio wiressly from your computer or from the LIVE 365 website. Searching for new gadgets through the huge Sony booth we stumbled across the new Sony Reader, which allows users to download books from a PC or the Internet and read them like any normal book. The Sony Reader is very slim and has a new battery system that only uses battery when you turn a page. Sony claims that you can turn 7,500 pages before the battery runs out. WOW! But don’t get too excited if you are in Europe as the Sony Reader will not be released to European markets. What a shame! Sony was not only showing products that will be released this year, oh no. They also allowed us to have a feel for the new technologies being developed at the moment, like the new OLED displays. They showed us two prototypes of OLED TVs: an 11 inches one that is just 3mm thick and a 27 inches Full HD one which is 10mm thick and has a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1!!! Both displays have a horizontal and vertical viewing angle of 170 degrees. The picture quality on these two prototypes was incredible and we can’t wait for Sony to release their commercial models. Another prototype displayed at Sony’s booth was their Laser Light Display TV, which is based on similar technology as LCD TVs, but have a different light source, laser. These laser TVs provide pure and vibrant colours and the picture quality is superb. The release date for Sony’s Laser TV has not been announced yet. And that’s all from Sony’s booth at CES 2007. We are going to keep looking for the latest products here in Las Vegas and we will keep updating our site with all the info, so keep watching this space…
