News of the movie downloads came when Sonys PlayStation Studio Chief Phil Harrison said: the decision we made to put a hard drive in every PlayStation 3 was because we saw the long term benefit. The ten year plan of allowing people to download all kinds of digital content to their PlayStation 3 -- not just games but movies, music, HD, standard definition TV, you name it. And that was a significant investment, but it was absolutely the right thing to do.

| Agreeably, a decade is a long time to wait when you can already get the service from the Xbox 360, but Mr Harrison went on to say we don't have the announcements that you're probably looking for today, but it is digital data. We have a hard drive, we have a commerce engine, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out we will have that on the network very shortly.
Speculators will be running riot on hearing such leading comments, but it is just a case of wait-and-see it seems. If current launch patterns are anything to go buy, PS3 will launch an extremely affordable external HD DVD drive in 12-18 months.
PS3 consoles go on sale in the UK next month. |
