In case we hadn’t already released, HD TV is the future. In an interview the head of Sony confirmed that HD was the way forward. Ray Maquire, UK MD said that although Brits has been slow on the uptake, High Definition is the future of both television and gaming. In an interview with Eurogamers TV, Maquire defended the steep £425 price tag on the PlayStation 3. He also denied claims that Sony were forcing gamers to use their new technology, instead claiming that Blue-Ray format was essential for the next generation gaming experience, and that was the only reason it was being included as a standard in PS3 consoles. Maquire said that PlayStation 3 would use a Cell chip, making it an extremely powerful computer that would need excessive storage – and Blu-Ray disc was essential to providing this storage capacity. He admitted at present there is very little High Definition content but the PS3 was going to legitimise the HD experience for people. |
