Sony VAIO drops XP mode in Windows 7
Sony will not be enabling the hardware virtuailisation technology required to operate XP mode in soon to be released Windows 7. Sony have voiced concerns that running VT would expose it’s system to “malicious code that could go very deep in the operating system structure”.
That said Sony have tried to resolve the issue by stating they will be enabling Intel’s Virtual Technology, which will run Windows XP mode in Windows 7, unfortunately this function will only be available with selected VAIO models with a higher ticket price.
A number of Sony VAIO users have requested refunds in response to the news; others are considering legal action due to the fact that Sony did not clearly state that a key function of the Core 2 Duo chip was rendered useless.
Sony commented it plans to re-examine the situation in an attempt to resolve the issue.
