Sony Stop Selling 20GB PS3 Games Console
Sony’s smaller PS3 20GB console gets the chop, as worldwide sales reduce to 10 percent of their expected target. It’s seems like a case for survival of the fittest for Sony’s latest games console, the PlayStation 3 (PS3). "At launch, we offered two separate models of PS3 to meet the diverse needs and interests of our PlayStation fan base. Initial retail demand was upwards of ninety percent in favor of the 60GB PS3 console, so we manufactured and shipped-in accordingly.’ Says Sony’s Dave Karakker. But Sony are far from shocked that the new, smaller console has been met with little demand, and even dropped by some retailers. Sony bosses admitted on March 23, the launch date, they would be assessing demand for the lower spec model. |
20GB PS3 is NoMore! | In appreciation of the larger 60GB PS3 being the console of choice with the majority of gamers worldwide, Sony has now stopped selling the 20GB PS3 console online, and has announced that all sales will now cease. Karakker explains ‘Due to the overwhelming demand for the 60GB model from both retailers and consumers, we have ceased offering the 20GB model in North America. In addition to the larger internal hard drive, the 60GB PlayStation 3 features added storage media slots and built-in Wi-Fi not found in the 20GB system. Based on retailer and consumer feedback, we have decided to focus our current efforts on the more popular 60GB model.’ Karraker stresses that the owners of the 20GB PS3 console shouldn’t be concerned, as they will remain fully supported by Sony. On the plus side, the 20GB model is already dropping in price, it may even become a bit of a collectors item, and should raise a mint on Ebay in a few years! |
