Sony DVD/CD burners DRU-830A, DRX-830U, DRX-830UL-T, DRX-S50U

If it takes an age you might just give it a miss, but if, like with Sony’s latest range of four fast DVD/CD burners it only takes a minute, they you might be more interested.

The four new burners: DRU-830A, DRX-830U, DRX-830UL-T, DRX-S50U have been designed with good looks in mind but also with the intention of supporting  both dual and double layer formats as well as CD-R/RW recording.

This is how fast they’ve made their new DVD/CD burners - the new Sony 830 series of multi-format DVD burners features 18X DVD±R, 8X DVD±R DL, 8X DVD+RW, 6X DVD-RW, 12X DVD-RAM for data backup, 48X CD-R, 32X CD-RW recording.  And the fastest 18X DVD±R recording speed, delivers a full 4.7 GB of video, data, music or images on standard 16X DVD+R media in about five minutes. 

Depending on your desires there’s an internal and external option, and even a slim laptop version. 

So first up is the internal number.   The internal DRU-830A drive comes with an ATAPI interface for easy installation inside a PC and should you have a black cased PC, it includes a black replacement bezel so you can match it up. 

The external DRX-830U drive features a space-efficient vertical design and offers connectivity with hi-speed USB (USB 2.0) digital interface for simple setup.

The other external burner, the DRX-830UL-T drive sports dual i.LINK(FireWire/IEEE-1394 compatible) and hi-speed USB (USB 2.0) digital interfaces and is designed for both the Macintosh and Windows platform.

Finally the drive that won’t make a show of your laptop or notebook.  When space is an issue the Sony DRX-S50U drive gives into its own.  Even though it’s a slim external package with all the advantages of a high-speed DVD/CD burner thanks to the hi-speed USB interface and supports 8X DVD±R, 4X DVD±R DL, 8X DVD+RW, 6X DVD-RW, and 24X CD-R/RW. 

The internal DRU-830A drive is available now for around $70; the external DRX-830U burner and the DRX-S50U drive are expected to ship in October for around $100 and $130 respectively; and the external DRX-830UL-T burner will be available in December for about $120.
