Sony Bravia - What Does It Mean?

Not a lot of people know this but “BRAVIA” was first used in 2005 and stands for "Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture". In the real world though, “Bravia” is the name of Sony’s processing engine for their LCD televisions. Before Bravia was used, the processing engine for Sony’s flat screens was called WEGA LCD. The clever guys at Sony decided this sound to similar to what they used many years before when promoting CRT televisions.
Bravia has almost become a brand in its self the brand slogan is “Color like.no.other.". The brands success has as much to do with the very slick adverts as it does with the technology. The adverts have included sending millions of bouncy balls down a San Francisco street as well as blowing up a Scottish council estate using multi colored paint.
All Sony Bravia televisions are HD ready and use the 'BRAVIA Engine' to produce deeper blacks, sharper images and a more natural skin tones. Over the past couple of year several other brands have launched processing engines under fancy names including the Panasonic Viera and the LG XD engine.
