Samsung sell Q1 ultra-mobile and Q30 laptop with 32Gb flash drives

It boasts of being the first company to introduce a 32Gb NAND flash-based solid state disk (SSD) in a portable computer.  And because of the flash-based disk Samsung say the Q1 and Q3 will be the fastest portable devices around.

The 32GB Flash-SSD is a medium for storing data on notebooks or mobile computers.  But rather than the rotating disc of a hard drive, this uses instantly accessible, non moving NAND flash memory.

The uploading and downloading of information is so much quicker that the SSD reads 300 percent faster (53MB/s) and writes 150 percent quicker (28MB/s) than normal hard drives.  Samsung says a 1.8 inch Flash-SSD can read at speeds of up to 57Mbps and write 32Mbps, while a similar sized 1.8 inch HDD would perform these operations with a maximum speed of 15Mbps.

The fact that the SSD uses only a fraction of the electricity makes it ideal for portable machines.

The Samsung Q1, an ultra-mobile computing device and the Q30, a 12.1-inch screen notebook PC, will be available in the Korean market from early June.

The retail price for the Q1-SSD will be KRW2.3 million (US$2,430), while the Q30-SSD will sell for KRW3.5 million (US$3,700).

At present there’s no definite release date for the UK.
