Remember the Samsung Q1, Honoree at last year’s CES? Well, Samsung Electronics America Inc. has improved it and the result is the Q1P SSD Ultra Mobile PC, a truly ultra mobile device that will give users the power of a PC on the palm of their hands. |
The main feature of the new Q1P SSD has to be its SSD solid state NAND flash memory-based hard drive, which improves overall system performance as it’s capable of reading 300 times faster and writes 150 percent faster than conventional hard drives. The boot time of the Q1P has been reduced by 25-50 percent compared to models with rotational media-based hard drives. And as the new SSD drive has no moving parts like traditional drives, the power consumption is lower, which means longer battery life. "What began as a collaborative project among Samsung, Microsoft and Intel has continued to flourish and evolve," said Bret Berg, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Mobile Computing Products, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. "Use of the solid state flash memory-based hard drive allows the Q1P SSD UMPC to be used in applications where instant access to data is critical, and where the adverse environmental conditions make use of a rotational hard disk drive-based system impractical. The enhanced capabilities of the Q1P SSD UMPC serve as a perfect example of the natural progression of Samsung's Q1 product line and our commitment to continuing the development and growth of this new product category." The Q1P SSD uses an Intel Pentium M ULV 1.0 GHz Processor and comes with 1GB of RAM. It has a 7" WVGA Touch Screen with a resolution of 800x480 pixels and wireless communication capabilities that include WiFi and Bluetooth. It also includes Two USB 2.0 Ports, One Type II CF card slot, H/P Jack, VGA and DC-In. And it only measures 9 x 5.5 x 1 inches! The new Samsung Q1P SSD comes with the AVS Now feature, that allows users to play media like movies, video, music and photos without having to start Windows. And like its predecessor, the Q1, it has several optional accessories, including a USB keyboard, extended battery life and an external optical disk drive. The Q1P SSD UMPC is currently available to the U.S. market at a retail price of $1,999
