Public Liability Insurance for UK Tradesmen not a Legal Requirement

HSE encouraging employees to be more involved with risk management in their workplace.

Public Liability Insurance provides protection to you or your business in the event of a claim being brought against you for damage that you cause to someone else’s property or for injury to a member of the public caused by your negligence.

It is not legally required in the UK for tradesmen but it is advisable to arrange cover with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recently telling Public Liability Insurance holders to encourage their employees to get more involved with risk management in their work place.

The ‘Do Your Bit’ campaign has shown that the more involved your staff are in the process, the more positive an effect it has had on Health and Safety performance.

Judith Hackett, HSE chairperson, said: "Where businesses have good workforce involvement they also often achieve better performance in health and safety and experience better productivity because their staff are motivated and feel engaged in the organisation."

The scheme running for a year will offer companies free or subsidised training courses to improve Health and Safety standards at work.
