Pioneer Produce a 60-inch Plasma
As the first company to launch a plasma TV back in 1997, Pioneer has launched another screen, but this time the PDP-607XD is a whole 60-inches.
Plasma giants Pioneer are on their 7th generation of plasma screens with the PDP-607XD, so we can’t understand why we have to have a separate external box to make this TV HD-ready. Pioneer explained that if consumers want to get HD broadcasts they will need a separate HD receiver. Can somebody remind me what year we are in? With so much competition from other plasma HDTV models on the market it seems ludicrous to leave the job of ‘HD provisions’ to a box sat by the side of the TV. We all know that other companies have managed to offer HDTV without any external additions, so it’s left us a little baffled. Oh yes, nearly forgot to mention, this plasma will can only support 1080p format, providing lower quality picture performance than plasmas supporting the paramount 1080i. Setting the external HD concerns aside, the PDP-607XD does have some attractive features to mention. Providing added shine to any home, the high-gloss piano black frame surrounds all 60-inches of Pioneer’s crystal emissive PUREBLACK 2 panel technology. For enhanced picture performance, Pioneer has given this TV their Direct Colour Filter 2 to whip up brighter and more realistic pictures than the average digital performance. The integrated digital tuner and CI slot for top-up TV services will give access to over 100 digital TV channels. Compatibility is key with this 7th generation plasma, with the choice of a wall mount or table top stand, and two speaker locations, you can make personalise your system to suit. Pioneer have applied a personal touch this time around with their imaging science foundation, this allows users to have their plasma professionally tuned to suit the ambient lighting of their home. As soon as we find out pricing and availability details you’ll be the first to know. By Lisa Malyon

well in answer to the question what year we are in its 2007 and media boxs in tvs over 40 inches are the way to go...most people do not have the room to put a 50tv in the corner so it must be wall mounted i have a 50 pioneer with media box, wall mounted with cables buried in the wall.
if i want to add an hd dvd to my system i can just plug in to the media box and off we go ,how would you get to all the terminals on the back of the screen if wall mounted answer you cant so its not so ludicrous after all. its a backward step to full integration in large plasmas because it takes away the option of wall mounting unless you dont mind all the cables showing ?
