Philips amBX system showed at CES 2007
| Winner of the 2007 CES innovations award, the Philips amBX system promises to make you “Feel more of the Game”, as its logo says. amBX is shorthand for “ambient experiences” and that’s exactly what Philips is trying to accomplish with the amBX system, to create an ambient where users can have a full sensory experience while playing games, movies, music and other media. In order to achieve this, the Philips amBX system uses a series of accessories like fans, lights and rumble-packs. | ![]() |
The full Philips amBX system is formed by a set of front lights (left and right), a set of fans, a directional wall washer light and controller unit, a set of two 2.1 speakers with light, a sub woofer and a wrist rumbler. The new system will make 3D gaming a life-like experience by providing colour reactivity, air pressure (wind whistling through your hair) for fast moving games such as racing, and realistic vibration technology to make you feel like you are really pulling the trigger when playing shooting games. The amBX system will start as a PC peripheral, but Philips is working hard to release a version for the new gaming consoles like Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later this year. The first Philips amBX-enabled game, Broken Sword: The Angel of Death has already been released and Philips have now showcased the technology at CES 2007 with a demo of Supreme Commander, using some oversized replicas of the initial set of lights, fans and speakers that make up the PC peripheral range. We have to say that the demo was really impressive indeed.
