Panasonic Partners with Skype for Free Video Chat on TV
Skype video calls may be nothing new, but with the recent announcement at 2010 CES, Skype is changing the game. Skype has teamed up with Panasonic to bring the free video service to televisions. Josh Silverman, Skype Chief Executive, explained that it was important to bring television to the "center of people's communication experience."
The system will use a Panasonic camera/microphone device that will plug directly into the TV. Depending on the Internet connection, the Skype video function will be capable of bringing you up to 720p, which is better then what you would get from a DVD. While there hasn't been a price discussed for the compatible Panasonic televisions, price points for the camera/microphones will range from $100-$200.
