Macallan UI Coming to a Windows 7 Tablet This Year

If you were Microsoft you'd be worried, right? Even Steve Ballmer has turned round and said: "they've sold certainly more than I'd like them to have sold." when talking about the Apple iPad's success of late. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, with manufacturers all working on tablet PC devices and this new Macallan UI surfacing, we could be seeing some great competing Microsoft tablets by the end of the year.

UI Centric, a third party developer has put together this tablet user interface with Microsoft in mind, and it's even going so far as to get the UI shipped on a tablet within the year! essentially it's a skin that runs atop a version on Windows 7, heavily optimised for a tablet PC and now that it's getting a lot of exposure and winning fans across the web, we hope the folks over at Redmond seriously consider working with / buying up this development team to give them a decent system to take on the Apple iPad with.

The Macallan UI is both Flash and Silverlight friendly and supports multitasking and a very nifty 'page turning' effect for switching between apps and menus. For a look at the UI in action in what appears to be a prototype form on a generic tablet device, check out the video below, then post you thoughts in our comment section....
