LG LCD TVs - Aim For Second Spot

LG the world’s third-largest maker  LCD TVs will over take by the end of the year to become the worlds second largest manufacture (Samsung are the largest). This is ahead of schedule. The stronger-than-expected demand is partly to do with the ultra-competitive price structure implemented and an expanded product range. LG said in January it aims to increase sales of flat-panel TVs by 42 percent this year.

Its reported that LG will continue to gain market share in LCD TVs in the second half of 2010 and may surpass Sony as the world’s second-largest maker in the current quarter, Henry Kim, an analyst at Citigroup Inc., wrote in a report this month.

LG announced last week that they would be introducing LED TVs to there range over the next couple of months. Shipments of LCD TV panels with LED backlights will increase to 3.3 million units this year compared with 438,000 in 2008, according to researcher iSuppli Corp. The new LED backlit TVs are brighter and consume less power than conventional fluorescent tubes.
