HTC Hero Android 2.1 Update Coming Late June

The tech world was quite chuffed to find that Google were adding free turn-by-turn navigation to UK Android handsets this week, but unfortunately this didn't make it onto the HTC hero handset due to version incompatibility. Basically, in order to run the Google Navigation software the handset in question needs to be Android version 1.6 or higher and the HTC Hero's in the UK are running version 1.5, but fear not there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Apparently a Google representative told news website TechRadar.com that the Hero will be updated to Android 2.1, only problem is that won't happen until late June. Not that long to wait, but it's a shame they couldn't sort that little hiccup out before getting everyone's hopes up. TechRadar.com clarified this with HTC so expect your HTC Hero to be packing some extra Sat Nav skill later on this summer.
