Google Buys Like.Com For $1 Million

Google has put forth 100 Million big ones on the a visual search engine that allows users to tag and search for pictures based on similarity. For example, if a user is searching for a pair of purple Nike's, Like.com will be able to provide other similar items in color and size.

The process of purchasing the search engine has lasted five years as it began back when the the now search engine Like.com was previously called Riya. Raising 50 million in venture capital and generating 50 million per year through its services makes it sought after business deal for Google. While this arena seems to be a different direction than Google has been headed in lately, it seems to be a powerful use of search technology.

Google currently uses an image search that is similar to the search which will be done on like.com with colour characteristics. With the new set of smart technologies, Google can integrate patents and create new platforms. The deal hasn't been sealed yet, we will keep you posted.
