Google are raising the stakes this week in the smartphone market, following the launch of the Google Open Spot app which we reported earlier, today the company have introduced the 'Android App Inventor', a program designed to make it easy for you to design your own apps for Android based smartphones.

As you're probably aware, Google already offer the Android SDK, a free software development kit for app developers, which you can use to build Android Apps, but you need some serious programming skills and knowledge to use it.
This is where App Inventor comes in, it's the Android SDK for the rest of us, designed to make it easy to construct apps without writing huge amounts of complex code. It gives users access to all the phones features, such as integrated digital cameras GPS for SAT NAV, WiFi, accelerometer, digital compass and so on.
So now there's no excuse for not creating that killer app you keep wishing for, but didn't previously have the tools to make yourself! We're looking forward to seeing what you guys can come up with, we're sure there are loads of awesome ideas for apps out there that app developers would never have imagined.
This could take Android and Apple iOS 4 competition to the next level and push Android even further in terms of popularity, market share and usability. We're really starting to prefer Android to Apple's iOS platform these days, and this is the icing on the cake, hopefully there are even more Google surprises on the way this week, after all, it's still only Monday morning!
